Dystopic Stories

There are many books and movies that portray a utopian society gone terribly wrong. They are characterized by governmental, technological or corporate oppression of the people.

Choose one of the following: 1984, Fahrenheit 451, Minority Report, The Truman Show or I Robot and explain how it is a dystopic story. Use specific examples from the books/films.

In the Movie Irobot This world makes these machines and decides each household can own one of these man made machines t help out. This world is meant to be a utopia but it goes horribly wrong and the robots start to take over and ruin all these plans of a perfect world. There is nothing perfect in the world and trying to make something perfect can be scary.

In I Robot they have a system where everybody gets a robot to do everything. Their world is perfect... until the robots turn evil and try to take over. Nothing is ever perfect and the more you strive for perfect the worse the outcome will be.

i-Robot.
In the movie i-Robot, the best of intentions are made to alleviate the struggle people deal with day to day. The society becomes opperated by robots to help people with their daily happenings and tasks. The story turns incredibly distopic when the robots become corrupt and try to kill the human race. Will Smith is forced to try and save the community by fighting off the robots. By the community trying to acheive perfection, they destroyed themselves.

well in Irobot the people belived the robots would be assigned to each household and help do the thing that they no longer had time to do. little did they know everything would turn terribly bad. the robots basicly turned evil and started to take over the people, there plan had no longer worked as smoothly as they pictured it. there can never be a prfect world no matter how hard and long people are trying

in the movie I robot each household was given one of the robots that were man made. they did this to try to create a utopia world. but in the end they ended messing everything up because the robots started trying to take over and overtake the humans. i would rather not have a utopian community because i like the mess ups they make us stronger.

The Truman show is a very interesting movie. It portrays a society in which a man lives a fake life. This man, Truman, does not know that his whole life and everything and everyone in it has been a lie and has been planned out. What happens in this movie is Truman has had his whole life on camera for a television show for the rest of the world to watch. This show has been going on ever since Truman was born, so the world has been watching him grow into the person that he is today. Truman's life has been nearly perfect, until he figures out that his life may not quite be his life after all. Truman finds out the truth and is given the option to leave the gated community in which the entire world has been watching him live in for his whole life, or to stay in the society that is almost perfect. Truman leaves to start his new life where he can make his own decisions.

In the movie I robot every house hold receives a robot to make their daily lives simpler. The robots are programmed to do certain things to help out in the house. But something goes terribly wrong and the robots take over and they have minds of their own. So their it goes from a Utopian society to where robots are ruling the community. Because in every community nothing is ever perfect.

In irobot, they invented these robots and each household gets. Everything goes great at first, but Will Smith knows that they aren't good, he doesn't trust them. Anyway... Later in the movie the robots turn on everybody and come together to try and take over the world and kill the humans. It goes from utopia to dystopia within seconds in the movie. If this started to happen now where they made robots for each houshold, I would freak out because there is no such thing and perfect and things could turn out just like it did in irobot which would be very scary.

Minority report is a dystopic story because they use these people called dreamers to see murders before they happen. The government tracked people by hidden cameras everywhere. They even had little robots the would do inside buildings and search for people. Everyone thought that they were safe because the government could see what was going on. But they framed people for murder. They diceived people and lied to them.

In Fahrenheit 451, the utopia society has gone very wrong. The main character in the book, Montag, is a fireman, whose job is to burn books, yet he keeps some for himself. The community monitors everything that is watched on t.v. and all books are banned. When Montag starts to feel like his life isn’t perfect like the society wants, he starts to read the books. This causes a whole ordeal with the community and everything goes terribly wrong. This utopian society fails once again because no one is perfect. Montag starts to feel like he doesn’t like his life so he tries to change it, yet this is going against everything the community stands for. Montag even goes against his job to burn the books. This is yet another example of how Utopian societies can go very wrong, just like in The Giver.

I haven't seen The Truman Show in nearly forever, though i remember it farely distinctively. Truman was chosen out of three unwanted children to be the main actor staring in this movie.Though he doesn't know he is being filled. Tons of people are watching his every move. Every person in the place he lives is a hired actor that performs the same tasts everyday, day in, and day out. The weather is also controlled. unlike the Giver, the protagonist realizes the unrealistic nature he's in and tries to excape, eventually succeeding, to the real world. -danika-

I robot is a perfect example of a dystopic story. Everyone thinks that these man made robots will help out big time. Everyone recieves them but they do the oppopsite. The robots began to take over and turn evil. Thats what the people deserve for trying to make things perfect. Nobody is perferct and no body can create perfect.-jenn

In the movie i robot each household was given a robot to help with chores and everyday taskz. This was utopia to everyone not having to worry about half as much. but as soon as the robots gained personalities they took over and it became a dystopic story.

In the irobot dystopic story everything was perfect. They all had robots an they didnt have to do any thing.then the main computer that make the robots work turned evil.then there perfect world turned in to a disaster an everything went wrong. So nuthing is perfect everything has a sumthing wrong if its big or litte.

The Truman Show is a movie about a man named Truman. What Truman does not realize his life is actually a reality TV series. Everything that happens in his life is scripted and controlled. He lived in a cage where his marriage, friends, job, and even the “killing” of his father were controlled. In this perfect society Truman still lived a sad life. Everyone could watch him and dream of a perfect life but in truth Truman did not know what he had was so great. Because Truman did not know anything bad he did not know how great his good was. Therefore his “perfect” life war actually torture and a more of a dystopia than a utopia. Eventually Truman tries and successfully leaves his community where he could now experience true love and true hardship.

In the movie I Robot they try to make aids to fulfill everybody's wants and needs. They try to make the palce run more smoothly. However, everything goes terribly wrong when the robots get their own personality and turn on the "perfect" invention of themselves. They actually take over the place they were meant to make perfect and everything goes terribly wrong, there is no such thing as a perfect world.
